Benefits of Reflexology

Reflexology can be used to treat a number of common ailments like

  • Back pain.
  • Digestive problems.
  • Migraine.
  • Menstrual problems.
  • Sinus problems.
  • General stress and tension.

It has also been used to treat more serious ailments such as heart disorders and multiple sclerosis.

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology?

Since reflexology treats the whole person, not the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment. The therapy brings relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, and is t suitable for all ages. Once your body is in-tune, it is wise to have regular treatments in order to i help maintain health and well-being. An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing, balancing and harmonising the body.

The Treatment

A typical treatment session lasts about 30-40 minutes. To receive treatment, you either lie on a massage couch or sit in a reclining chair, with your knees supported, and the soles of your feet facing the therapist.

The therapist will work systematically, over each foot and ankle, seeking out and treating any painful areas with a compression technique. The compression technique is a caterpillar like movement, performed mainly by the thumbs or index fingers. It clears congestion in those parts of the body corresponding to the painful reflexes, by improving lymphatic, nerve, and blood circulation. Any pain you experience while the reflexologist treats these areas, should be pleasant, not unbearable. The compression technique is interspersed with a variety of relaxation movements.

The number of treatments you will need, depend on the condition being treated and how you respond to it. During a course of treatment your body undergoes a detoxifying process, and this may manifest itself in a variety of ways like cold, aching joints, a sore throat, diarrhea or increased urination. This healing response depends on the amount of toxicity in your body and on your level of vitality. There is a possibility that these responses may not occur, but if they do, they don't last long and should be regarded as a good sign.
